Website planning checklist.
Use this copyable checklist before commissioning, designing or rewriting a small-business website. It helps turn a broad idea into a manageable set of decisions.
Before the project begins
Agree who the site serves, what the priority visitor tasks are and who can approve the content. Gather existing facts, examples and constraints before design starts.
Practical checklist
- Primary visitor identified.
- Priority tasks written down.
- Core pages listed.
- Content owner named.
- Facts and evidence collected.
Before publishing
Review every important page on desktop and mobile. Confirm that visitors can find the key pages, understand the content and complete the intended next step.
Practical checklist
- Page headings and introductions are clear.
- Navigation and internal links work.
- Contact details are current when published.
- Images have appropriate alt text.
- Privacy and policy pages are available.
After launch
Set the first review date and keep a simple change log. Treat maintenance as part of the website, not as an optional extra.
