Maintain your site

Keep the website useful after launch.

A website is not finished when it goes live. Small, regular checks help keep key information accurate, pages fast enough to use and visitors able to complete important tasks.

Set a realistic review rhythm

Review contact details, opening hours, core service information and broken links monthly. Review the wider page set each quarter. A small routine is more reliable than waiting for a major rebuild.

Assign one person to own the checklist, even if technical work is handled elsewhere.

Prioritise the essentials

Keep software, plugins and themes updated; confirm backups work; check the contact path; and make sure the most important pages still describe the current business accurately.

Practical checklist

  • Check contact and enquiry routes.
  • Review updates and backups.
  • Test key pages on a phone.
  • Fix broken internal and external links.
  • Remove or revise outdated claims.

Record meaningful changes

Keep a short change log for content, technical changes and incidents. It makes reviews easier and gives future contributors the context they need.
